Where History Lives! The Victorian Chautauqua is a two-day event celebrating the rich history of Mountain Lake Park with lectures, historical portrayals, musical performances, historic home tours, family-friendly activities, artisans, food, and more. Mountain Lake Park was founded as the second Chautauqua resort in the United States in 1881. It quickly grew to be a widely recognized summer escape along the B&O Railroad line. Over the course of a few decades, the planned community was developed with Victorian cottages, boarding homes, and grand hotels that would welcome summer residents by the thousands. Besides the cool, fresh, mountain air, travelers enjoyed weeks of cultural, spiritual, and recreational activities. Over 60 original structures have been maintained, reminding residents and visitors of the town's distinctive past. This tradition has been revived during the first weekend following each 4th of July. A full program and activities are available on the Victorian Chautauqua website. This is one summer event you won't want to miss. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Victorian Chautauqua will be strictly compliant with all CDC and state health guidelines at the time of the event.
