States and municipalities across the country are in the process of redistricting, or redrawing legislative districts, based on the 2020 census. These districts are drawn to ensure equal representation in U.S. House of Representatives, state legislatures, and many local offices. Unfortunately, the process quickly became politically fraught as candidates and political parties try to consolidate power, employing a practice known as gerrymandering. Dr. Martis’s presentation will help participants understand the importance of redistricting and the dangers of gerrymandering.
