Locally, Infrastructure Week is organized by the Morgantown Area Partnership's Infrastructure Committee.  The Infrastructure Committee is comprised of an eclectic mix of Monongalia County professionals involved in government, law, utilities, private development, long-term planning, and more.  The Mission of the committee is to create both community awareness and action in support of our natural and man-made infrastructure so that it continues to serve as the foundation upon which our shared community can flourish for generations to come.  In 2022, the Chair of the Infrastructure Committee is Tony Faini, an Economic Development Attorney with Steptoe & Johnson PLLC. 

As the Partnership's primary focus regarding the infrastructure that serves as the building blocks for our local economy, the Infrastructure Committee works alongside business and government to echo the message of the national organization (United for Infrastructure) to educate the local public and policymakers about the importance of infrastructure to the local economy, workers, and the community.  This year, on Friday, May 20th, there will be an in-person event along with a free, virtual live-stream for anyone interested in learning about our local economic development plans.  Representatives from the Monongalia County Commission, the City of Morgantown, the Metropolitan Planning Organization, and other local professionals will discuss our area's new 10-year plans and the various ways to finance the growth of our shared community.

The Airport
Vital Construction is underway at the Morgantown Municipal Airport where a 1,001-foot extension is being added to the existing runway. 
When done, this infrastructure enhancement will modernize the airport's facilities and make the runway 6,200 feet long to help MGW support current operations, recruit new business and improve airport safety.

2022 Morgantown City Paving Plan
The City of Morgantown Staff Engineer, Drew Gaitlin discusses the 2022 paving plan. This paving plan include over 12 miles of roadway, two Parking Authority surface lots, about 6,000 feet of Rail-Trail, and approximately 25 ADA improvements.




Project Citizen at University High School
Students in Lindsay Stepanek's 4th period Civics class at University High School focused a class project on the entrance to a neighborhood from a major road. By completing the project, the class learned the ins and outs of working to accomplish changes in a community. Hear more about their project below. 



As a result of the class' project, teacher Lindsay Stepanek received a certificate of recognition from the Partnership and Glenmark, as well as $500 stipend for use in her class from Glenmark. (See photo below in the gallery)
