Description

Each year, the United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties partners with local nonprofit organizations to coordinate volunteer projects that will be completed on one special ‘Day of Caring’ sponsored by WVU Medicine. This year, which marks the 28th anniversary of this event, hundreds of volunteers will come together to tackle more than 30 projects throughout Monongalia and Preston counties.

These volunteers include individual residents, families, organizations, and corporations. Volunteers use a website, VolunteerMPC.org, to sign up for the project of their choice, allowing them to decide what aligns with their interests and abilities. Likewise, they can use the website to create a team and sign-up with friends, groups, family members, and co-workers. The projects help the nonprofit organizations involved and include everything from painting, to gardening, to stuffing envelopes, and more.

Starting at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, volunteers will meet at the Monongalia County Ballpark for a Kick-Off Celebration. At that time, they will receive a volunteer T-shirt, be provided with free lunch, take a group photograph, and meet other volunteers. Directly following the Kick-Off Celebration, volunteers will disperse to various locations throughout Monongalia and Preston counties to work on their projects. All projects will be completed by 5 p.m.

This event, which is the area’s largest volunteer project, will bring together more than 250 individuals to create positive change. It is designed to foster service and volunteerism, and to introduce area residents to local nonprofit organizations that work each day to build a better community for all. It also allows volunteers to learn and recognize the impact the United Way has on meeting the human service needs of the community.
