Did you know that Monongalia County is currently updating its
2013 Comprehensive Plan?
This is an important process that takes place every ten years
to track growth and development in the County and to update
the community?s vision and goals for the future.
A Comprehensive Plan is a planning document that is required
by the state. The Plan provides an analysis of future growth
and recommends a vision for land use planning for the next
10 years. Comprehensive Plans rely heavily on input from
community members on a broad range of subjects. The
County?s Plan will include information and recommendations
on current and future land uses in the County as well as goals
for a wide range of topics, including housing, transportation,
infrastructure, public services, recreation, economic
development, finance and historic preservation.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
The Plan update launched in summer of 2021, alongside the
Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) and Morgantown
Comprehensive Plan updates. While each plan has a distinct
scope and distinct project team, all three projects have been
coordinated and phased to maximize community input and
highlight policy opportunities across all jurisdictions.
The Monongalia County Comprehensive Plan Update will focus
specifically on the unincorporated areas of the County and the
County government?s operations.
Since the project launch, the Monongalia County
Comprehensive Plan project team has been conducting
research on existing conditions in Monongalia County focusing
on current types of land uses, employment, population,
transportation and future growth in the County. Coordination
with the MTP and Morgantown Comprehensive Plan project
teams has been focused on transportation opportunities
(roads, pedestrian and bicycle trails, transit, and potential
policy updates) and areas of overlap between jurisdictions.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
The Monongalia County Comprehensive Plan project team
is currently seeking public input on residents? visions for
the future, community values, and big ideas. A survey is
available online at https://monongaliacounty.gov/moncpc/
about/comprehensive_plan.php and is open to all residents
in, and visitors to, Monongalia County. The survey will be
live through Thursday, February 24th, 2022.
In addition to the online survey, the Monongalia County
Comprehensive Plan project team will be co-hosting a
Community Workshop with the MTP team:

the future of Monongalia County. The MTP project team
