Home Instead Brings Scent Kits and Scent Discriminate K9 Training to West Virginia Community To Protect Those At Risk of Wandering.
Home Instead will be hosting a scent discriminate K9 trailing seminar for area agency K9 handlers and community partners at Mylan Park June 7 – 10, 2021 to raise community awareness for populations at risk of wandering and enhance agency K9 Unit missing person response. Former FBI Forensic Canine Specialist and Scent Evidence K9 CEO, Paul Coley, will be instructing the training which covers advanced scent discriminate K9 trailing methods and an innovative Scent Kit program that provides a way for families and caregivers to pre-collect a person’s unique scent before a wandering event occurs.
K9 teams from the __ participating West Virginia Sheriff’s Offices and Police Departments have been invited to attend the training event and participate in the 4-day scenario-based training exercises to enhance their scent discriminate K9 trailing performance and scent collection methods. The agencies are working together with Home Instead and community partners (Alzheimer’s Association, etc.) to support the goals of improving missing person response capabilities, K9 search recovery success, and raising community awareness of West Virginia’s vulnerable populations with Alzheimer’s Disease and autism who are at high risk of wandering and going missing.
